Carbon Ribbon Related Knowledge

As we all know, carbon ribbons are inseparable from barcode labels. What are carbon ribbons? what's the effect? What is it made of? The following editors briefly introduce some related knowledge about carbon ribbon for everyone

The carbon ribbon is composed of a base film, a heat-resistant coating, and an ink coating. We know that the base film is the carrier of the carbon ribbon. Generally, a 4.5 μm thick polyester film is used. The heat-resistant coating is mainly used for heat insulation and reduction. Small friction, reducing dust on the print head, can protect the print head and extend the life of the print head; the ink coating is composed of pigments, resins, waxes, additives and other components, which affect the transfer temperature of the ribbon, print quality, The main properties of the ribbon, such as the color of the ribbon and the abrasion resistance of the print, are the core of the ribbon.

The carbon ribbon is on the thermal transfer printer. The heat-resistant coating is in direct contact with the thermal transfer head. The thermal transfer ink is in direct contact with the substrate (label). The thermal transfer head will instantly release heat during work. The thermal coating and base film are transferred to the thermal transfer ink coating, and the ink is melted and hot stamped onto the substrate to form text and images. The high-quality ribbon has no residue of thermal transfer ink in the heated part after its transfer.

Carbon ribbon related knowledge

The ribbon can be divided into inner carbon and outer carbon according to the winding method. Remove a little label paper and stick it on the carbon ribbon. If there is black ink on the label paper, it means that this side is the side containing toner. Direct contact with the label paper is internal carbon, otherwise it is external carbon.

The carbon ribbon is also divided into a flat pressure type carbon ribbon and a side pressure type carbon ribbon from a print head using a printer, and is suitable for a flat pressure type printer and a side pressure type printer, respectively. The two carbon ribbons cannot be mixed.

Carbon ribbon is divided into three types from chemical composition (material): wax-based, mixed-based and resin-based. Generally wax-based carbon ribbon refers to a carbon ribbon with a paraffin ratio of 70%, mixed-based carbon ribbon refers to a carbon belt with a paraffin and tree ratio of 50% each, and resin-based carbon ribbon refers to a carbon belt with a paraffin ratio of less than 50%.

Wax-based ribbons have the characteristics of high sensitivity, high resolution, and high density, and are widely applicable, such as plain paper, coated paper, rough paper, smooth paper, coated paper, synthetic paper, etc .; mixed-based ribbons have Pollution resistance, high definition, high resolution, with wide applicability, suitable for a variety of labels, such as coated paper, glossy paper, coated paper, synthetic paper, PET, PVC, etc. Scratch resistance, stain resistance, solvent resistance, corrosion resistance, high resolution, etc., suitable for labels of various materials, especially various polyester and plastic labels, such as synthetic paper, PVC, PET, washed labels, etc.

Generally speaking, carbon ribbons are of fixed length. The most commonly used length is 300 meters, and there are 70 and 90 meters long products. The choice of carbon ribbon is to consider the materials of the printer and the sticker. If the combination is not good, it may not achieve the ideal printing effect. When choosing a ribbon, the width of the ribbon is generally slightly wider than the label. The purpose of this is to protect the print head. For example, when we print 75 mm wide labels, we generally choose 80 mm wide ribbons.
