Q. Why do Thermal printheads wear out?
A: heating, cooling and pressure are the main causes of thermal print head failure.When the heat conduction band (TTR) passes through the print head, small resistance elements called points are heated by applying a current.The heat from these points is then transferred directly to the thermosensitive paper (medium) or thermosensitive ribbon.The heat generated by the point mode produces text, bar codes, or images on the label.Because the dots have to be heated and cooled very quickly, and when the ribbon or paper passes through the nozzle, there is friction, and the nozzle eventually wears out.As the print head ages, the output becomes lighter, or some of the dots stop heating, resulting in holes in the print.
Q. How can I prolong the life of my Thermal Printhead?
1.Clean the printhead regularly,
2.Use the right type and good quality paper type and thermal transfer ribbon
3.Try to run prints at room temperature where possible
4.Use the lowest contrast setting you can
5.If your printer has a printhead pressure adjustment, use the lowest setting possible.
6.Make sure you are not printing off of the thermal transfer ribbon.
